"TEAS EXAM TEA" Part II: How to Study for the TEAS?

YOU are now preparing to take your TEAS exam soon, or you just want to know how to study for it. When it comes to studying, there are many different learning styles people have. This article will explain resources you can use to help you study. Everybody's learning style is different, so you can use these tips to aid you study style, or change it:

1. USE A TEAS STUDY BOOK. There are several TEAS study guides. A few good ones, by popular demand, are *ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual by Mometrix, ATI TEAS 6 Study Guide by Accepted Inc., and ATI TEAS Study Manual with ATI TEAS Practice Tests for the ATI TEAS 6 by Trivium*.

2. TAKE MOST, OR ALL YOUR SCIENCE COURSES. I would advise to take this tip as well as you can to fit your situation of when you plan to get accepted into nursing school. I took all my science prerequisites before taking my TEAS exam, and it benefited me TREMENDOUSLY. It made studying for the science section less hectic since I was exposed to the information beforehand, and made it less intimidating when it was exam day. I recommend taking Anatomy and Physiology I & II before taking the test.

3. THE TEST IS NOT AS HARD AS YOU THINK. In my personal experience, the TEAS test is nothing harder than basic skills you learned in high school. What makes the test "hard" is that people tend to forget these basic skills, such as, algebra, basic grammar rules, basic reading comprehension. Apart from the science section, the rest of the test is not too rigorous. However, it is important to brush up on those basic skills you may have forgot. In college, students tend to think more critically and do more intensive work that we forget simple concepts like adding fractions, or when to use "had" or "have." It is okay. That is why tip #1 is highly important.

4. STUDY YOUR WEAKEST SUBJECTS FIRST. Often when studying for standardized testing, students tend to open a study a book and do every practice question possible. While that is not a bad idea, it is not the best idea. It is important to start studying and practicing your weakest subjects first. For example, math is my weakest subject, so I spent most of my study time re-learning and reviewing difficult concepts. Long story short, math was my highest score on the exam. I reviewed English and Reading, but I did not put too much emphasis because I naturally do well in those subjects. This method made studying less stressful, and ensured that I was actually studying valuable information that could help me raise my score.

5. PLAN TO PASS. If you already plan to take the exam again, you are planning to fail the first time. No matter if it's your first time taking the exam, plan to take it as if you are aiming for a 100. The key to success is to always aim higher than your goals in order to settle above average. Up to this point, you already studied, took your science courses, and read my tips, so the only thing left to do is to pass!
